Brief Primer about Indoor Pesticide Storage.

With sizes ranging from 30L (ideal for placing on or under work benches), to 250L capacity, we have the safety cabinets to meet your requirements.

Class 6 dangerous goods are substances that are classified as TOXIC. According to the Australian Dangeous Goods code (ADG code) they can be defined as: “Division 6.1 Toxic Substances – These are substances liable either to cause death or serious injury or to harm human health if swallowed or inhaled or by skin contact.”

Toxic substances are chemicals that WILL cause harm to a human’s health. These substances will cause harm if it enters the body through ingestion, absorption through the skin, and even inhalation.
Toxic Substances can be found in common household products like cleaning solutions, prescription medications, pesticides, herbicides, gardening products, alcohol products, and many more. As you can see toxic substances can be found in a lot of common substances that we commonly use / interact with. So it’s important to understand the properties of toxic substances and learn how to properly handle them, to minimize the risk on your health.

Toxic substances like Pesticides can also be the cause of chronic health issues such as cancer, liver disease, and other health complications, from exposure to low concentrations of the toxic substance for an extended amount of time.

If you fail to properly store toxic substances. You can expect more than just human health issues to be your only concern. When toxic chemicals are accidentally, or worse, intentionally released into the environment, it can have a major detrimental impact on any living creature in that area and will cause a rippling effect on the food chain. If the destruction of ecosystems doesn’t cause you to blink then if improperly stored, you would be financially liable because of non-compliance.

Because of the severe effects on human health, and the potentially devastating damage it could do to the environment not to mention the impact it can do to your wallet with financial liability of your business, it is of the utmost importance that you and the people around you know how to properly handle and store any toxic substances you might be using to minimize the risk they can bring. The Australian standard (AS NZS 4452-1997) outlines the standard on handling toxic substance, as for safety storage here are some of the requirements that need to be complied with.

Construction: Our Indoor Pesticide Storage Cabinets are made with a double wall construction with an integrated 40 mm thermal barrier. Our cabinet’s floor, walls, doors, and roof are made with double walled steel. The gaps in between the steel panels are filled with fire resistant insulations thus adding another level of protection from radiant heat from either internal or external fires that may occur.

The Indoor Pesticide Storage Cabinets super structure (the parts that are critical to its structural integrity) is made of materials that will not melt in temperatures below 850 degrees Celsius. This does not include the cabinet’s seals and gaskets of course.

Our doors aside from being constructed from double walled steel and insulated, have a self-closing feature. This is to minimize the exposure of the contents from external elements and reducing the risk caused by the human negligence. The doors also include a three point self-latching system

Integrated to every one of our Indoor Pesticide Storage cabinets are liquid-tight sump that is at least 150mm deep (more capacity for cabinets with larger capacities). The sump is designed to contain only liquid that is spilled inside the cabinet.

The walls of our storage cabinets include built in ventilation ports and integral flash arrestors on each side. The shelving of our cabinets are made of galvanized steel thus improving their structural integrity. Due to the innate strength of the material our shelving can handle the maximum load the cabinet is rated for, at all times. The shelves are also perforated to promote free airflow inside the cabinet, coupled with the venting ports and flash arrestors this helps prevent even more potentially toxic fumes from accumulating inside the cabinet. The perforations in the shelving also have an additional function of draining any spilled liquid to the integrated sump located at the bottom of the cabinet.

Our cabinets all feature adjustable feet to ensure absolute stability and leveling even in moderately uneven surfaces.
To avoid any static or electrical discharging accident that might cause the contents of the cabinet to ignite a grounding connector was incorporated into the design of our cabinets. Located on the outside panel of the cabinet for ease of installation for earthing purposes.
The cabinet will then be sealed by a highly durable and very visible, white powder coat finish. We chose powder coating over conventional paint because Powder coating leaves a more durable coating compared to paint. While the choice of using an epoxy based coat is arguably it has the best resistance against corrosion in comparison to other commercially available options. Powder coating also makes cleaning the cabinet easier while also keeping the superstructure of the cabinet safe from oxidation / rust, since the cabinet is primarily made of steel.

Safety and warning signage are also pre applied in the most visible locations of the cabinet to comply with Australian standards.

For businesses that handle any toxic substances, knowing what goes into a quality, regulation compliant, Indoor Pesticide Storage Cabinets is a matter of utmost importance. It can be considered as the first line of defense in case of any accidents. Of course doing your research and following safety regulations and having proper spill containment and accident safety protocols is equally important for the safety of people, your business and the environment.
