Containment bunds are a legal requirement in Australia in conformity with Work Health and Safety (WHS). Australian businesses are bound by law to contain and manage chemical spills in the workplace.

Compliant Containment: The Importance of Choosing the Right Bund Material for Dangerous Goods Storage

Law provides that containment or spill bunds may be manufactured from metal or plastic, but the bunding material must suit a specific class of dangerous goods. WSSA Drum Containment Bunds are made of high-grade polyethylene, and we also offer heavy-duty powder-coated galvanised steel.

Failure to comply with regulations can involve risks of damage to property and the environment. Chemical spills and leaks pose serious health hazards if they are accidentally inhaled, splashed into eyes, ingested, or absorbed through the skin when such spillage occurs.

Moreover, releasing toxic or hazardous substances to the environment may pose a threat. As a result, they would have a huge impact on living organisms, and this can have a cumulative effect on the food chain.

Bunding is not only designed to contain any chemical spills, but they are also a requirement for a reason. Bunding prevents untoward accidents from occurring.

In addition, if toxic and hazardous substances do not use containment bunds in accordance to the WHS, there is a risk that your company, business, or organisation will be held financially liable for health and environmental hazards due to non-compliance.

When businesses deals or works with flammable and combustible substances, the liquid spills can travel quickly and possibly come into contact with ignition sources such as hot surfaces, open flames. This includes common workplace equipment such as soldering irons, welding equipment, electric motors.

The bunding construction should be used for storage of all liquids except rainwater. In order to prevent escaping substances from entering the environment, operators working with bunds need to know how to perform preventive maintenance.

Features

Polyethylene Drum Containment Bunds
Features of our range of Polyethylene drum bunds is capable of storing two or three 205L drums. Rotationally molded polyethylene is used to manufacture these products, which are load tested by NATA-certified engineers in Australia.

The sump capacity of our 2 Drum Containment Bund is capable of handling up to 246 litres, while our 3 Drum Containment Bund is capable of handling 250 litres. Both of these containment bunds are capable of handling up to 1,100 kg maximum universally distributed load (UDL).

Both polyethylene bunds include a removable grated floor that provides easy access to the bund sump to facilitate easier cleaning. With its three drain plugs in the sump, spilled liquids can easily be decanted.

They also feature forklift tyne pockets for easy transport everywhere on your work floor. Likewise, our spill pallets are also equipped with encapsulated data plates that provide information about the sump’s capacity, its maximum UDL, along with the material composition and net weight of the bund.

Polyethylene 2 Drum Bund with a Framed Canvacon Cover WSSA’s Polyethylene 2 Drum Bund with a Framed Canvacon Cover. The galvanised steel support frame prevents any sag and can keep the bund cover in shape.

2. Flat-Pack Convenience

This option comes supplied ‘flat packed’ which can be easily assembled on site. We also have an anti-static option available on request.

3. Complete Set Only: Framed Canvacon Cover and Polyethylene 2 Drum Bund Sold Together

However, we do not sell the Framed Canvacon Cover separately. Our Polyethylene 2 Drum Bund with a Framed Canvacon Cover is sold as a set.

4. Heavy-Duty Construction: 300-Litre Sump Capacity and 2000kg Load for Steel Drum Bund

It is manufactured from heavy duty powder-coated galvanised steel with a sump capacity of up to 300 litres. Our steel drum bund is also capable of handling up to 2000 kg maximum universally distributed load (UDL).

5. Easy Maintenance: Removable Grates for Cleaning and Liquid Removal in Drum Bunds

It also features removable grates for easy cleaning and the removal of spilled liquid, rainwater, or any other trapped debris. It also comes with a mobile bunded option for 205L drums or smaller containers. The bund is also ideal to segregate liquids for easy identification.

6. Ftted with a front zippered door

This cover is fitted with a front zippered door to allow easy access to the containers. This framed cover is manufactured as standard in UV-stable, yellow Canvacon. It is also fitted with eyelets and tie down ropes to secure it to the bund.

7. Specifically designed for secondary and temporary storage

Note that portable bunding units are specifically designed for secondary and temporary storage. Check with your regulatory body or local council if you are unsure of your storage compliance obligations.

8. Complete Protection: Canvacon Covers for Full Enclosure of Drum Bunds

Powder Coated Steel Drum Bund WSSA’s Powder Coated Steel Drum Bund is capable of storing two 250L drums or a combination of smaller containers. It is for use with Class 3 Flammable Liquids or other compatible chemicals and capture leaks, drips, and spills of flammable liquids.

9. Safe and Smooth Transport: Lockable Nylon Castor Wheels for Drum Bund Dollies

Our galvanised spill pallet is accessible using a forklift from both sides, even if it is loaded with four 250L drums. Its forklift friendly design makes handling drums safer and easier.

Optional Drum Bund Covers

Our drum bunds come with optional covers to prevent ingress of rainwater and other debris in the bund.

Our polyethylene drum bund cover is specially made for 2 drum spill containment bunds and are manufactured as standard in UV-stable, yellow Canvacon. It is fitted with eyelets and tie down ropes to secure the cover to the bund. You also have the option of choosing anti-static covers, available upon request.
